One in and one out...

As you can see I was not kidding about Luke being out of diapers and Brenna being in. What a nightmare!! After spending about $60 on varying types of doggy diapers that didn't fit we ended up putting her in the largest toddler diapers we could find which was great unless she sat down in which case they would pop open and she would happily walk out of them. Or when no one was looking she would absolutely destroy them. I wish I had taken pictures of our bedroom...kind of looked like the Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Seriously I had no idea how bad it would be to have a dog in heat! Oh my god! Of course it's great to have her outside but you never know when a male dog might come wandering by so you are on watch constantly.
Yesterday Jim was in Vancouver for a meeting and Doc and Diane were here and it's a good thing they were, I was almost in melt down. Brenna had torn her diaper off, spread it everywhere, jumped on the bed, blood everywhere, ran down the stairs....blood everywhere...it was awful. I went downstairs to get something and the phone rang, at which time Jack the cat started to puke and puke and puke...Shortly there after whilst cleaning this up I realized that while I was out Brenna ate one of my only comfortable 'fancy' shoes. Put this together with trying to paint the hay shed and realizing that as fast as I'm putting the paint on the goats are licking it off...there were a couple of other moments but thanks to Diane I ended up laughing (maybe a little too much...) but all was well. It's a good thing I've got Simon though to keep me together, I can't believe how attached I'm getting to that goofy llama.
Don & Av came over to sit around the fire this afternoon and it was just so nice to be outside and warm. When they left I grabbed a ride up to feed the critters and Av came in to meet the gang. I gave her a handful of treats and they all became her best friends. Then after I fed the goats and alpacas I handed her a brush and held the grain bucket for Mr Simon. He was an absolute gentleman and she got to brush him all over. You almost had to smack the smile off her face, made my day. My boy is quite the charmer. (thanks Heather)

Thats crazy! I had no idea dogs did that while in heat... ick! What do breeders do? Just leave them outside while they're doing it? What a nightmare! How long does it last?

The average is 3 weeks and I guess the breeders just lock them in runs. It has been so awful, mostly because nothing fits her.
